Sports Performance Training in Speonk, NY

This page is for athletes who are not injured. Baseline testing first, then a program aimed at whatever is actually limiting you.

Nothing hurts. Now let us find what is holding you back.

Sports performance training here starts with the same kind of examination an injury gets, applied to a healthy athlete. Movement patterns, mobility joint by joint, single-leg control, balance and coordination, and how you accelerate, decelerate and change direction. You end up with baseline numbers, and those numbers are what your program is written against and remeasured on.

What follows is capacity. Power and speed work loaded properly, deceleration and landing mechanics, closing the asymmetries that leak energy and quietly set up injuries, technique work on the patterns your sport repeats thousands of times, and recovery work between hard sessions so you can train at the frequency your season actually demands.

This page is not rehab. If something hurts, catches or gives way, sports rehab is where you start, and you come here once you are cleared. Treating the two as one service is how athletes end up training around a problem instead of through it, which is why we keep them separate and hand patients over deliberately.

Sports Performance Training at Greiner Physical Therapy

Who trains here.

Athletes with a season to prepare for, and adults who train hard enough that programming matters.

High School And College Athletes

Athletes in season or preparing for one who want measurable capacity rather than a generic gym plan.

Adult Recreational Athletes

Weekend competitors who train often enough that how they train starts to matter.

Former High-Level Athletes

People rebuilding toward a standard they used to hold, without repeating the injuries that ended it.

Golfers And Racquet Players

Rotational athletes chasing speed, distance and the ability to play on consecutive days.

Lifters

Barbell athletes who need the mobility, positions and deceleration work their program leaves out.

Recently Discharged Patients

Athletes cleared from rehab who still have a measurable deficit on one side.

Test, find the limiter, train it, retest.

The program is written off your numbers, not off a template for your sport.

Baseline Testing

Movement screening, mobility and stability testing joint by joint, single-leg control, and sport-specific measures of acceleration, deceleration and change of direction. Numbers on paper.

Find The Limiter

Your therapist identifies what is actually capping you: a range restriction, an asymmetry, a deceleration problem, a timing problem in how muscles fire. One or two things usually explain most of it.

Train The Limiter

A program built on that finding, progressing power, speed, strength and endurance in the patterns your sport uses, with hands-on work and mobility where range is the barrier.

Remeasure

The baseline tests get repeated, so progress is a number rather than a feeling, and the program gets rewritten around whatever the new limiter turns out to be.

What performance work delivers.

Measured, retested, and specific to your sport.

Measured Progress

Baseline numbers, retested, on the qualities your sport actually asks for.

Better Movement Efficiency

Fewer energy leaks, cleaner deceleration and landing, better timing between muscle groups.

Less Injury Exposure

Asymmetries and restrictions found and closed before they find you mid-season.

Faster Turnaround

Recovery work that lets you train and compete on consecutive days.

Questions about sports performance training.

01 / How is this different from hiring a personal trainer?
The examination in front of it. Your program is written by a licensed physical therapist off movement, mobility and control testing, which means it targets your specific limiter rather than a general template, and it accounts for your injury history.
02 / I am not injured. Is this still physical therapy, and how does insurance work?
It is performance work delivered by physical therapists, which is a different thing from a plan of care for an injury, and that distinction matters for coverage. We are in network with Medicare and Medicare Advantage, out of network with most other plans, and we submit claims on your behalf. We do not accept Medicaid. If your training turns into treatment, New York gives you direct access for up to 30 days or 10 visits, whichever comes first, with no referral.
03 / What if something starts hurting while I train?
Then you are already in the right building. Your therapist evaluates it that day, and if it needs treatment we move you into sports rehab, resolve it and bring you back. That handover is the whole advantage of doing performance work inside a physical therapy practice.

What our patients say.

"Greiner PT is a first class place. Seth and his team get you working hard with a varied array of exercises. Peter Imperator, my main therapist, was spectacular."
