Personal Training in Quogue, NY

One-on-one programming with a trainer who knows your history. Written for your body, your goal and the injuries you have actually had, then coached rep by rep.

An exercise prescription, written for you and coached in the room.

Most people do not fail at training because they lack willpower. They fail because they are running a program written for somebody else: too much volume, no progression, and a movement their hip has never been able to do without complaining. Then something hurts, they stop, and they conclude they are the problem.

Personal training here starts with an assessment instead of a template. We measure movement patterns, strength, mobility and conditioning, take a real history of every injury and surgery you have had, and then write a program around all of it. From there, every session is one-on-one: your trainer sets up the lift, cues it, adjusts the load, and changes the plan when your body reports something new. Progress gets checked on a schedule, and the program changes when it stops working.

Our founder, Seth Greiner, PT, MSPT, picked up his NASM personal training certification while he was still at Boston University, and the practice has kept training and rehab under one roof ever since. That is the real advantage: if something starts hurting, your trainer works in a building full of licensed physical therapists, and the answer is a hallway away instead of a new appointment somewhere else.

Personal Training at Greiner Physical Therapy

Who trains one-on-one with us.

Usually people with a specific goal and a body that has some history to it.

Former athletes

You were fit once, you know what your body used to do, and you want a plan that respects both facts.

Just discharged from rehab

The knee or the shoulder is fixed. Now you want it strong, and you do not want to undo the work guessing.

Stuck on a plateau

You already train, consistently, and nothing has changed in a year. Usually that is a programming problem, not an effort problem.

Getting ready for a season

Golf, tennis, paddle or pickleball. Conditioning built for the sport you are about to play a lot of.

Nervous about the gym

You do not know what to do, you do not want to look like you do not know what to do, and a private session solves both.

Short on time

Two focused sessions a week beats five unfocused ones, and a trainer is how you make them focused.

How it works.

Four steps, then a loop.

Consultation and fitness assessment

We talk through your goals, your schedule, what you like doing and what you will actually do. Then we measure: movement patterns, strength, mobility, conditioning, and every relevant injury or surgery in your history.

Your program gets written

A real progression, with the right volume for your recovery, exercises chosen around your restrictions, and a load plan that climbs. It goes into our home-exercise app with video, so the sessions you do without us are not improvised.

Coached sessions

One-on-one, the whole session. Setup, cueing, hands-on correction, load adjustments in real time, and a change of plan on the spot if something is not moving well that day. Most people train two to three times a week.

Reassess and rewrite

We re-measure on a schedule and rewrite the program from the results. If you prefer, we also run small group and hybrid formats, where a portion of your training happens with two or three other people.

What you get out of it.

Four things a generic program cannot give you.

Programming that fits

Progression, volume and exercise selection built from your assessment, not from a template with your name on it.

Technique that holds up

Hands-on correction and cueing every session, which is what keeps the load climbing without something breaking.

Strength and conditioning that transfer

Measurable change in the lifts, the sport, and the things that used to be work.

Accountability that is a person

Someone who knows your program, expects you at a time, and notices when the numbers stall.

Injury history respected

Old surgeries and cranky joints are trained around deliberately, by people who treat them for a living.

A clinic in the same building

If something starts hurting, you get it assessed by a licensed physical therapist instead of guessing at it.

Questions about personal training.

01 / How often should I train, and how long is a session?
Most people train two to three times a week, and sessions run 30 to 60 minutes depending on what your program calls for. Frequency matters less than consistency and progression, both of which are easier when somebody else is tracking them.
02 / Is personal training covered by insurance?
No. Training is a fitness service and is paid for directly. Physical therapy is different: in New York you can see a licensed physical therapist without a doctor’s referral for up to 30 days or 10 visits, whichever comes first, we are in network with Medicare and Medicare Advantage, and out of network with most other plans, and we submit claims on your behalf. Medicaid is not accepted.
03 / How is this different from your fitness classes?
Personal training is one-on-one, with a program written for you and your whole session spent on it. Fitness classes are the group side: a coach, a small room, one program scaled to everyone in it. Both work. Which one is right depends on how specific your goal is.
04 / Can I train if I am still in physical therapy?
Often yes, and it is a good handoff. We coordinate so the training complements the rehab instead of competing with it, and the load stays inside what your therapist wants for that stage. Everyone involved works in the same building, which makes that easy.

What our patients say.

"If you're looking for physical therapy this is the place to be! One on one training, practitioners who listen and invite feedback, and an app to help with at home exercises."
